High up in the sparkly, dark-blue sky, on a planet called Planet Polka-Dot, lived a tiny robot named Beep-Boop. Beep-Boop didn’t have legs like you. No, no! He had shiny wheels for feet and a little round chest that went 'Hummm-whirrr!' whenever he was happy. Can you say 'Hummm-whirrr!'?
Every day, the big robots on Planet Polka-Dot were very, very busy. They went 'Clank! Clunk! Snap!' building tall, silver towers. But Beep-Boop wanted something different. He wanted to find a wiggle. He wanted to find a giggle. He wanted to find a game!
One morning, Beep-Boop was rolling through the Silver Garden. 'Roll-roll-roll-zip!' he went. Suddenly, deep inside a shiny bush, he saw something blink. It was bright. It was yellow. It was a Bouncing Nebula Ball! It went 'Glow-glow-glow' and hummed a sweet, soft song. Beep-Boop reached out his metal hand and—POOF!—the ball jumped up into the air.
'Boing!' went the ball. 'Beep!' went Beep-Boop. He tried to catch it, but the ball was fast! It zoomed over his head. It went 'Zing!' past his ears. Beep-Boop chased it around and around until his wheels felt dizzy. Catching a sun-ball all by yourself is hard work, isn’t it?
Beep-Boop looked up. He saw big Crane-Bot lifting heavy blocks. 'Hey!' Beep-Boop called. 'Want to play?' Crane-Bot shook his big metal head. 'No play, little robot. I must work. Lift and drop! Lift and drop!' But then, the ball went 'Boing!' right onto Crane-Bot's big flat head. 'Cling!' it sounded. Crane-Bot giggled. It was a deep, rusty giggle that went 'Ho-ho-hum!'
Next came Zoom-Speeder, a robot so fast she was just a purple blur. 'I’m too quick for toys!' she sang, zooming by. But Beep-Boop pushed the ball with all his might—'Whoosh!'—right into Zoom-Speeder’s path. She caught it in her lap and her eyes lit up like bright blue stars.
Suddenly, something magical happened. When Beep-Boop threw the ball to Crane-Bot, and Crane-Bot tapped it to Zoom-Speeder, the ball didn’t just glow—it sparkled! It went 'Bum-tap-ping!' as it bounced from friend to friend. Can you clap that rhythm? Bum-tap-ping! Bum-tap-ping!
All the busy robots stopped their 'Clank-clunks' to watch. The more the friends played, the brighter the planet became. Rainbows shot out from the ball, turning the dark sky into a big, glowing disco party! Beep-Boop’s chest light blinked faster and faster. He wasn't just a tiny robot anymore; he was the captain of the happiest team in the galaxy.
They bounced and they pounced. They rolled and they strolled. They learned that work is good, but playing together is the best battery-charger of all.
Soon, the moons of Planet Polka-Dot began to yawn. It was time for little robots to rest their circuits. Beep-Boop tucked the Glowing Ball into a soft silver nest. He rolled into his cozy charging bed, his wheels finally still. He felt warm from his head down to his bolts. And that’s how it all turned out just right. Goodnight, little robot. Beep-beep-boop.
