The curtains were pulled, and the room was filled with the soft, blue glow of a sleepy moon. But inside his small bed, Leo noticed something wasn’t quite right. His best friend, a teddy bear named Brumla, had his plastic button eyes wide open—staring at the ceiling as if he were waiting for a parade to walk by.

'Can’t sleep, Brumla?' Leo whispered, tucking the bear under the edge of the Quilt of Constellations. Brumla didn’t say anything, because he is a bear, but Leo knew that look. It was the 'too-many-thoughts' look. So, Leo leaned in close, his voice a soft rustle like autumn leaves. 'I’ll tell you a secret,' Leo said. 'Right now, at the very edge of the sky, where the blue turns to velvet, a special train is waiting. And you and I? We have tickets.'

Leo reached out and 'Whoosh!'—with a sprinkle of imagination, the bedroom floor turned into a shimmering platform. Standing there was the Engine of Dreams, a locomotive carved from a giant falling star. It didn’t puff smoke; it puffed soft, silver clouds that smelled like warm milk and vanilla. Leo reached into his pocket and pulled out a Silver Whistle. 'All aboard!' he chirped, and the wheels began to turn. Chuff-chuff-shhh. Chuff-chuff-shhh. Can you hear it, Brumla? The tracks are made of pure moonlight, and they hum a song just for us.

They climbed into the conductor’s cabin, which was lined with mossy velvet. Leo pulled a lever, and the train lifted off the ground, soaring past the window and straight into the Milky Way. Around them, the stars weren’t just lights; they were tiny, glowing bells that tinkled as the train brushed past. 'Tinkle-tonk! Tinkle-tonk!' The sound was so sweet it made Brumla’s button eyes blink, just once.

But then, the train slowed down. The silver tracks ahead were covered in a thick, gray stardust fog. 'Oh no,' Leo muttered. 'A cosmic traffic jam!' Up ahead, the North Star was flickering like a tired lamp, and the stars of the Big Dipper were bumping into each other. Without light, the train couldn’t find its way. Then, they saw him—the Moon-Rabbit. He was sitting on a nearby asteroid, looking very grumpy. 'I've lost my knitting needle!' the Rabbit cried, his long ears drooping. 'I was knitting a blanket for the stars, and now I can't see to finish it. Everything is dim!'

Leo knew what to do. He didn't wait for a grown-up; he was the Conductor! 'Brumla, we need Giggle-dust,' Leo said. He tickled Brumla's tummy, and the bear let out a silent, plushy wiggle. Out came a shimmer of golden sparkles—Giggle-dust! Leo tossed the dust toward the Moon-Rabbit. 'Look under your tail!' Leo laughed. The Rabbit hopped, and there it was—the silver needle, glowing bright. To thank them, the Moon-Rabbit gave Leo a special Lantern of Quiet Thoughts. When Leo lit it, the stardust fog melted away like sugar in tea.

'Go on, Engine,' Leo whispered. 'Chuff-chuff-shhh...' The train glided onto the Saturn Ring Slide. They went around and around the giant planet, feeling the cool wind on their fur and hair. It felt like swinging very high on a playground, but much, much softer. As they slid, Leo gathered 'Quiet-thoughts' from the air—bits of silence that sounded like a cat’s purr and the feeling of a soft pillow. He tucked these into Brumla’s ears.

Finally, the tracks led to a place where the stars were very far apart. This was the Station of Deep Sleep. It wasn't made of brick or wood, but of a single, massive, fluffy white cloud. The 'Bum! Bum!' of the engine became slower and slower... Chuff... chuff... shhhhh. The air here tasted like dreams. Leo jumped down and helped Brumla onto the Cloud-Pillow.

'We're here,' Leo breathed. He looked around and realized that the great big galaxy wasn't scary at all. It was just a giant blanket waiting to be pulled up. As he took care of Brumla, Leo felt his own eyelids getting heavy, like two little lead weights. The silver whistle slipped from his hand and turned back into a toy. The locomotive turned back into his wooden chair, and the tracks faded into the familiar patterns of his bedroom rug.

Brumla’s button eyes weren't staring anymore. They were closed tight. Leo climbed back into his own bed, pulling the Quilt of Constellations up to his chin. He felt warm, safe, and very, very quiet. The whole world was 'shhh.' And that’s how it all turned out just right. Before the moon could even move an inch across the sky, both the Conductor and his bear were fast asleep, dreaming of the next station.
