In the middle of the Sunflower Class, there was a pile of very exciting things. Do you know what they were? There were crinkly-crunchy cardboard boxes, sticky-wicky silver tape, and glitter that sparkled like tiny stars. Leo, who loves everything that zooms, had a big idea. He didn't want to build a regular tower. No, no! He wanted to build the most amazing machine in the world: The Kindness Computer.

Leo and his friend Mia got to work. Scritch-scratch went the crayons! Rrrrrip-snap went the tape! Can you imagine a box that knows your secrets? Well, this box was special. It didn't play video games and it didn't do math. It was a magic machine that only worked when children shared their toys. 'It needs a button!' cried Leo. 'And a slot for the stickers!' Mia added, drawing a big yellow sun on the side. They used the Silver Duct Tape of Friendship to hold it all together until—Ta-da!—it was finished.

But then, everyone waited. They looked at the computer. The computer looked at them. It stayed very, very quiet. No sounds. No stickers. Nothing! 'Maybe it’s sleeping?' wondered Leo. But Mia shook her head. 'It needs fuel,' she said. 'It needs kindness fuel!' Well, Leo looked at his favorite, shiny blue truck. He loved that truck. But he looked at Mia, who didn't have a toy at all. He took a deep breath and handed it to her. 'Here, Mia,' he whispered. Suddenly—Ping!—the computer made a happy sound. Zit-zit-pop! Out of the slot tumbled a shiny, sparkly sticker!

'It works!' the children cheered. Everyone started sharing. They shared the blocks. They shared the dolls. They shared the crayons so fast it was like a whirlwind! Ping-pop-ping-zippity-zap! But then, something strange happened. The computer began to shake. It went Bzzzz-clunk... urp! It gave a giant hiccup and stopped. No more stickers. Why did it stop? The children were sharing, wasn't that right? But they weren't looking at their friends anymore. They were only looking at the sticker slot. They were being fast, but they weren't being kind.

Teacher Sarah knelt down. 'Listen,' she said softly. The room grew very quiet. 'The computer only beeps when your heart feels the sharing is real.' Leo and Mia looked at each other. They realized that sharing isn't a race; it’s a way to make a friend smile. Do you know what they did next? They slowed down. They didn't rush. When Leo saw a little girl named Sophie looking sad, he didn't just throw a toy at her. He walked over, gave her a soft hug, and asked, 'Would you like to play with my truck together?'

The cardboard computer began to make a new sound. It wasn't a loud Ping! anymore. It was a gentle, warm Hummmmmm, like a cat purring in the sun. And then—Whoosh!—the computer printed one giant, glowing rainbow sticker. It wasn't just for Leo, and it wasn't just for Mia. It was for the whole Sunflower Class to share together. They realized they didn't really need a cardboard box to tell them they were doing a great job, but it sure was fun when it went Pop!

And that’s how it all turned out just right.
