High atop the tallest Silver Pine lived Luna. Luna was an owl, but she was a very, very tiny owl. Her wings were soft, like two velvet leaves. While the big owls went Flap! Flap! Flap! and talked about their giant adventures, Luna sat quietly. She looked out at the Whispering Woods. Deep in the heart of the trees grew the Glow-Flower, a flower that shone like a little fallen star. 'I can reach it,' Luna whispered. 'I know I can.'

Flap-flap-flutter! Luna took off. But oh! The sky began to change. Splat! went the rain on her beak. Whoosh! went the wind against her chest. It was a big wind for such a small owl. Can you hear the wind? Woooooo! It tried to push her back, but Luna shook her feathers. She kept going. Flap-flap-flutter. Flap-flap-flutter.

Suddenly, she heard a tiny sound. Squeak! Squeak! It was Squeak the Ground-Squirrel, stuck deep inside a thick, thorny bramble bush. The big owls could never help; they were much too wide to fit! But Luna? Luna was small. She tucked in her velvet wings and—zip!—she wove through the narrow, prickly gaps. With a gentle tug of her beak, she pulled the bramble away. Pop! Squeak was free! 'You are so brave,' Squeak whispered. Luna felt a warm glow in her tummy. Being small wasn't a problem; it was her superpower!

Luna flew further until the woods grew quiet and sweet. There it was: the Glow-Flower. It went blink-blink-blink in the dark. Luna didn't take the flower; she simply sat beside it and let its light wash over her tiny wings. She realized she didn't need to catch a giant mouse to be a hero.

Luna flew back to the Silver Pine as the sun began to peek over the hills. She wasn't the biggest owl, but she had the steadiest heart. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Do you feel that? That is the sound of bravery. And as Luna tucked her head under her velvet wing, she knew that even the smallest wings can carry a heart full of big, wonderful courage. And that’s how it all turned out just right. Sleep tight, little owl.
