Once upon a time, far up in the velvet curtains of the night sky, lived a little girl named Nova. She wasnât like you or meânot exactly! Nova had hair like deep indigo silk, and if you looked closely, youâd see real stars twinkling in her curls. Her dress? Oh, it was made of midnight-blue velvet that shifted and shimmered whenever she danced. Zip! Zoom! Nova loved to float through the Milky Way, leaving a trail of sparkly stardust behind her.
Everything in space was usually very quiet and very peaceful. Ssssh. But one morning, Novaâs silver ears picked up a strange new sound. It wasnât the soft whistle of a comet. It wasnât the giggle of a moonbeam. It was a Hmmmm-buzz-click. Then a Hmmmm-buzz-click. Can you hear that? It sounded like a grumpy little bumblebee hiding in the stars.
Nova followed the sound all the way to the Magenta Nebulaâa giant, glowing cloud that looked like pink cotton candy. Deep inside, she found something wonderful: The Spinning Song Library! It was filled with thousands of beautiful glass discs, floating and twirling in circles. These discs were very special because they held the songs of the whole universe. Normally, they went Whirrr-whirrr-whirrr in a perfect melody. But today? They were wobbling! Wobble-clatter-thud!
"Oh my!" Nova whispered, her moonstone circlet glowing bright. "That doesn't sound right at all." In the center of the library sat the Great Gramophone, a giant, golden machine. And guess what was stuck inside the gears? A tiny, fuzzy space-dust bunny! The poor little fluff was shivering, and every time it moved, the gears went Crank-snap-pop! The music was getting all tangled up.
Nova didn't get scared. She moved with a gentle, floating rhythm. She reached into her pouch and pulled out a handful of soft stardust. Poof! She blew the dust toward the bunny to make him feel safe. Then, she used her moonstone circlet to gently nudge the gears. "Itâs okay, little one," she said softly. With a tiny Squeak!, she helped the dust bunny wiggle free and sent him hopping away to a soft cloud.
Whoosh! Suddenly, the Great Gramophone began to spin perfectly. Ding! The glass discs started to twirl again. Beautiful music filled the nebulaâsongs of growing planets, songs of sleeping stars, and songs of happy moons. It sounded like a thousand tiny silver bells ringing at once. Lulu-la-loo...
Nova sat back and smiled, her star-filled hair glowing with joy. She realized that even the big, giant universe sometimes needs a little bit of help and a lot of kindness to keep its music playing. She floated back home to the Milky Way, humming the new song of the stars. And do you know what? If you listen very closely tonight, when the room is very quiet, you might just hear it too. Hummm-mmm-mmm. And thatâs how it all turned out just right.
