Once upon a time, on the Big Blue Iceberg, where the snow goes 'crunch-crunch-crunch' under tiny feet, lived a little penguin named Pip. Pip had a very round tummy, very orange flippers, and one very special treasure. It was a pebble that shone just like a fallen star! Can you imagine how shiny that pebble was? It was smooth, and cool, and it sparkled in Pipās nest every single night.
Pip loved his pebble more than fish-popsicles. Every morning, he would wake up and go 'rub-rub-rub' with his wing until the stone glowed. But even though Pip had the prettiest stone on the ice, he was a little bit lonely. He would look at the Great Slippery Slide and think, 'I wish I had a friend to go Zooooom with.' But Pip was shy. He just stayed in his nest, polishing his stone. Rub-rub, polish-polish.
One chilly morning, something new happened. A little penguin named Poka arrived on a drifting ice floe. Poka looked very cold and very, very lonely. She didn't have a shiny pebble. She didn't even have a nest yet! Pip watched from behind a big snowdrift. His little penguin heart went 'pitter-patter, pitter-patter.' He wanted to say hello, but his tummy did a nervous 'flip-flop.' Have you ever felt a little bit shy? Pip did, too.
He looked at his beautiful moonlight pebble. It was so bright! Then he looked at Poka, who was shivering. 'Brrr,' said Poka quietly. Pip realized that a cold stoneāeven a shiny oneāisn't as warm as a new friend. So, Pip took a deep breath. He tucked the pebble under his wing and started to move. Flap-flap-waddle! Flap-flap-waddle!
He waddled all the way across the crunchy snow until he reached Poka. With a little 'Plop!', he placed the moonlight pebble right at her feet. Poka looked down. Her eyes grew wide and bright. 'For me?' she asked with a tiny chirp. Pip nodded his head and gave a happy little hop. 'Welcome to the Big Blue Iceberg!' he seemed to say. Suddenly, Poka wasn't shivering anymore. She gave Pip a big, snowy smile that was even brighter than the star-stone.
'Thank you, Pip!' Poka chirped. Do you know what they did next? They didn't just sit and look at the stone. No, no! They ran together to the Great Slippery Slide. Pip went 'Zoooooom!' and Poka went 'Splaaaash!' They played until the sun began to set, painting the sky in pink and purple.
Pip learned a wonderful secret that day: a joy shared is a joy doubled. The Big Blue Iceberg didn't feel cold at all anymore, because when you have a friend by your side, everything feels as warm as a hug. And thatās how it all turned out just right.
