Once upon a time, in a place called the Meadow of Quiet Greens, everything was very, very still. Shhh. Can you hear how quiet it was? The grass didn’t wiggle, the bees were still snoring, and all the flowers were tucked away in their green blankets. In the middle of it all stood Sunny. Sunny was a bright yellow sunflower with a very tall stem and a very big face. Generally, Sunny liked to be a serious sunflower. She liked to stand tall and watch the clouds.
But one morning, something tiny and red and polka-dotted landed right on Sunny’s golden nose. It was Lulu the Ladybug! Lulu took one step, then two. Scritch-scratch, scritch-scratch. Oh no! Sunny’s nose began to twitch. Her yellow petals began to shake. Her big sunflower tummy began to wobble. And then, it happened. Hee-hee-hee! Ha-ha-ha! Sunny let out a giant, bubbly giggle. Can you make a silly sound like that? Tee-hee!
Sunny tried to be serious again. She pressed her leaves together. But the giggles were too big! Bwa-ha-ha! And as she laughed, something magical happened. POP! Right at Sunny’s feet, a tiny green sprout jumped out of the dirt. ZOOP! A sleepy bluebell opened its eyes and stretched. Sunny blinked. Every time she laughed, a new flower woke up. Her giggles were like magic sunshine!
Sunny hopped—well, as much as a flower can hop—toward the Corner of Grumpy Rocks. This part of the meadow was grey and dusty. Barnaby the Grumpy Rock sat there, looking very bored. Sunny looked at him and thought of something silly. She thought of a cow wearing fuzzy slippers! Giggle-giggle-snort! As the sound of her laughter hit the ground, WHIZZ! Pink daisies started dancing around Barnaby’s toes. BOING! Purple clover sprang up between the stones. Barnaby didn't look so grumpy anymore; he looked like he was wearing a flower crown!
Sunny was having so much fun. She ran her giggles through the tall grass and over the Sleepy Seedlings. Tee-hee! Pop! Ha-ha! Zip! Soon, the Meadow of Quiet Greens wasn't quiet at all. It was the Great Rainbow Garden! There were red flowers, blue flowers, and orange flowers, all wiggling and jiggling in the breeze. Sunny was a bit out of breath, her golden petals were a little messy, but her heart felt warm and fuzzy.
She looked around and saw her new friends. The Sleepy Seedlings were now tall and strong, and they were laughing too. They realized that when they were happy, the whole world beautiful. The air smelled like honey and the wind felt like a soft hug. Sunny wasn't just a serious sunflower anymore; she was the girl who giggled the garden to life.
As the sun began to set, painting the sky in sleepy purples and pinks, the giggles turned into soft, happy sighs. The flowers began to nod their heads. Sway-low, sway-high. Sunny closed her eyes, feeling very proud of her beautiful, colorful home. The meadow was quiet once more, but it wasn't a lonely quiet—it was a happy, sleepy quiet. And that’s how it all turned out just right. Goodnight, Sunny. Goodnight, garden.
