Once upon a time, in a barn that smelled like warm sunshine and sweet hay, lived a little girl named Zoe. Zoe had hair like dandelion fluff and boots that went clack-clack-clack on the wooden floor. Can you tap your feet like Zoe? Clack-clack-clack!
Today, Zoe was a Sound Detective. Shhh... can you be quiet like a little mouse? Zoe stood on her tiptoes. She listened with her big, curious ears. Wiggle-wiggle. The barn was full of secrets.
Suddenly, from behind a giant mountain of yellow hay, came a very loud sound. "Mööö!" Zoe’s eyes went wide. "Mööö!" Who says moo? Is it a bicycle? No! Is it a toaster? No! Zoe crept closer on her tippy-toes. Creak... squeak... She took her yellow handkerchief and gave it a wave. Šup! She jumped behind the hay. It wasn’t a giant cow at all. It was a tiny, fuzzy kitten trying to make a big, brave sound. Mow-woo! "You’re a funny kitty," Zoe laughed.
Then, Zoe heard something new. Up in the rafters, high above her head, it went "Cluck-cluck-cluck!" Can you cluck like a happy hen? "Cluck-cluck!" Zoe looked up and saw three brown hens looking down at her. Flap-flap-flap! They flapped their wings and some dust fell down like snow. Puf! Zoe sneezed a tiny sneeze. "A-choo!" The hens giggled in their chicken-way.
Zoe walked deeper into the barn. Behind a big green tractor, she heard a scratchy sound. Scritch-scratch, scritch-scratch. Then a soft "Beee-aaa!" Was it a cloud? No! It was a woolly sheep hiding in the shadows. Zoe reached out and touched the soft wool. It felt like a warm sweater. Pat-pat-pat.
But wait! What was that sound near the old wooden bench? It was a very sleepy sound. Huff-puff... snore-z-z-z. Zoe crawled on her hands and knees. Scuff-scuff went her denim overalls. She looked under the bench and found Barnaby the dog. His tail gave one happy wag. Thump!
Zoe clapped her hands. Clap-clap! She had found everyone! The kitten, the hens, the sheep, and Barnaby. "Listen!" Zoe whispered. Then, she started the Great Barn Music.
The kitten went "Mow!", the hens went "Cluck!", the sheep went "Beee!", and Barnaby went "Woof!" And Zoe? Zoe just laughed and did a happy dance in her scuffed leather boots. Bum-ba-da-bum!
Everything was loud, and everything was happy. The sun began to go down, painting the barn in cozy orange light. Zoe gave the barn a big hug. And that’s how it all turned out just right.
